What one skill do all successful people, all around the world, and all throughout time, have in common?
Whether they realize it or not, they all are masters at visualizing their success. They routinely envision successful outcomes--and most often expect nothing else. Their words likely match their thoughts, but they may have also mastered the art of not telling everyone how confident they are. If you could tap into the minds of the top tier of successful people, you would find
that their thoughts are predominantly focused around success. Also, the truly successful don't let others sway them from their vision, and each has his or her own personal definition of "success."
Consider the last time you tackled something challenging. Did you focus on the desired outcome, or were you concerned about your performance, or consumed with worry about the possibility of failure?
One of my favorite statements is, "You can't win by playing not to lose." This attitude can be applied to starting a business, finishing your degree, negotiating a big contract, buying that house, or achieving your fitness goals. This isn't just about the bigger stuff either; it also applies to daily events and interactions with others. A successful mindset is a habit worth cultivating - you can apply it to facilitate meetings, navigate traffic, shop for groceries, complete workouts, and spend meaningful time with family & friends.
How to apply it? Practice picturing yourself successful in some or all of the above scenarios. Daydream for a few minutes, and imagine how great it will be when things are going as you hoped. Pick one goal for focus, convince yourself it is possible, envision yourself being successful, and then take some action.
May 'the force' be with you!
