You may be surprised that we would include Google Maps in a list of productivity apps for greater success in the new year, but that's partly because this app (and others like it) are under-utilized for making more in less time. For example, say you have an appointment with someone and don't know where you're going.
You could use your "spidey-sense" and hope for the best, but when you show up late and explain that you got lost, people are less understanding today given the technology at hand. For the modern professional, there is simply no excuse any more for getting lost-- unless it's a particularly tricky address or in a GPS dead zone.
In the old days, we had to rely on paper maps. I carried a phone book in my car trunk for years partly because I used the maps section on occasion (phone books were also handy for other uses, including after I started carrying a bag phone in my trunk- yes, I've just dated myself significantly. Note that I can't recall the last time I used a phone book!). Then we had Mapquest, which was wonderful! Personally, now I find turn by turn directions annoying--especially when incorrect. Today, it's a breeze to pull up your current position on your smartphone using GPS, whether you're navigating to an unfamiliar place, or sometimes just to see what's nearby (I have discovered several parks and running routes this way, just while driving around).
You can also check traffic, terrain, points of interest or scenic areas, find an ATM, gas station, restaurant, or other type of service/location. AND- one of my favorite features--you can tell roughly how long it will take you to arrive.
Whether you use Google Maps or something similar, try out a new feature next time you're in the car, explore your world! (Please drive responsibly.)
To your continued success,
